5 Uniquely “LA” Yoga Classes

From finding your zen 1,000 feet above downtown to partaking in various mind-altering substances before or after class, here are five places where yoga is anything but routine.

Looking to mix up your regular yoga practice? These days there are plenty of options for the 20 million yoga practitioners in the U.S.

Sunrise Yoga at Skyspace

Not for anyone with a fear of heights, Sunrise Yoga in California’s tallest open-air observation deck is the latest specialty yoga event for those looking for breathtaking views with your morning mantra.

When: 6 a.m., every fourth Saturday of the month through September

Where: OUE Skyspace in the US Bank Tower, Los Angeles

Full Moon Yoga at Terranea Resort

In celebration of the full moon, yoga enthusiasts of all levels are invited to practice under the night sky on a bluff overlooking the ocean. Open to resort guests and the public, a $20 charitable donation is requested for a different partner each month. (July’s partner is Harbor Animal Shelter and August’s is Vistas for Children.)

Brew Yoga

Run. Yoga. Chug? OK. Brew Yoga offers Angelinos Vinyasa Flow or Power yoga classes with an optional pre-class warm-up run and post-flow reward of a delicious cold beer. With regular classes at Golden Road and Angel City breweries, the 90-minute classes are $15 and include one craft beer.

When: Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m.

Where: Saturdays: Golden Road Brewery, Atwater Village; Sundays: Angel City Brewery, downtown Los Angeles

Higher Self Yoga

Looking to take your practice to a “higher” level? (Pun intended.) A marijuana-infused stretch-and-sweat-session is available at various locations around LA. Vape pens are provided, but until Prop 64 goes into full effect, participants must show a valid medical cannabis recommendation to participate in the cannabis portion of the class.

YOGAqua

For those looking for a little more of a challenge, why not try out your balancing poses while floating on a 10-foot floating paddleboard? Thirty minutes of paddling (great for your core) are followed by a 60-minute Vinyasa flow class. And don’t worry, if you fall off, it’s a great way to cool down.

When: Check the website for class schedules

Where: Marina Del Rey
